Dental Implants for
Missing Teeth

Dental Implants for
Missing Teeth

Dental implants are now universally considered by both patients and dentists as the ideal treatment of choice and the gold standard solution for the replacement of missing teeth.

Please note, any surgical or invasive procedure carries risks. Before proceeding, you should seek a second opinion from an appropriately qualified health practitioner.

BENEFITS OF DENTAL IMPLANTS

  • Dental Implants are strong and stable plus they look, feel and function like natural healthy teeth.
  • No-one will ever know you have them, allowing you to eat, speak and smile with confidence.
  • Dental Implants have the highest success rate of all tooth replacement options and are now considered the gold standard.
  • Dental Implants have been successfully used for the replacement of teeth for over 40 years and with daily brushing and flossing, implants can last a lifetime.
  • Unlike traditional dentures, implants are fixed permanently in place. There is no need to remove your teeth.
  • Unlike crowns and bridges, there is no need to use the other teeth as support or remove any healthy tooth structure.
  • When a tooth is lost, the bone that once surrounded the tooth degenerates or shrinks away over time. Dental implants actually stimulate the bone and prevent this from happening.

WITH DENTURES

For some patients, full or partial removable dentures are still a necessity. However, the stability and retention of these dentures can often be unpredictable. Their fit and ability to function like natural teeth becomes less and less efficient with age.

With as few as two implants we can create a removable denture that snaps securely into place giving you amazing stability and confidence, restoring your natural function.

Stronger Fit

Implants prevent slippage and hold dentures securely in place.

Stop Bone Loss

Implants prevent continued bone loss from denture use and help maintain your natural facial structure.

Less Pain

Implants eliminate painful sore spots caused by denture pressure points.

Speak Clearly

Implants secure dentures allowing you to naturally pronounce words.

DENTAL IMPLANTS
PROCEDURE

DENTAL IMPLANTS
PROCEDURE

After a full assessment of your teeth and general health, we can start the first stage of treatment. This implant is placed directly into the jaw to take the place of the missing root. The implant is usually then left for several months to bond with the bone, providing a strong and stable platform. We call this "osseointergration". Once this has been achieved, replacement teeth can be attached. In some cases, it may be possible to attach replacement temporary teeth at the same time the implant is placed.

Does The Procedure Hurt?

No, the implant placement procedure should not hurt as local anaesthetic will be used. However nervous patients have the option of happy gas, oral or IV conscious sedation to help them relax during treatment. Post-operative discomfort will be managed with analgesics and anti-inflammatory medications.

Dental Implants Options

Implant options range from a single tooth, multiple teeth up to a full mouth rehabilitation.
If multiple teeth are missing, you don’t necessarily need an implant for every missing tooth. For example, three consecutively missing teeth can be replaced with a 3 unit bridge supported on just two implants.

If all the teeth in an arch are missing there are various ways this can be addressed. Some examples are:

  • A removable full denture can be supported on 2 to 6 implants.
  • A fixed full arch bridge can be supported on 4 to 6 or more implants.
  • All-on-4™ is a commonly known treatment concept whereby a full arch fixed bridge is supported on four implants. A non removable temporary bridge is usually fabricated within a day of the implants being placed. After 3 to 6 months of healing, a permanent bridge can be made.

Depending on your needs and expectations, we will discuss all appropriate options with you and together formulate a treatment plan that best suits your situation and budget.

Dental Implants Cost

In general, a single tooth implant will cost approximately $5,500. However, since we personalise all our treatment plans the price for implant treatment will vary from individual to individual. For example, factors such as patient needs, expectations, number of implants and bone grafting requirements will affect the final price. We believe in being up front and transparent about our fees so we’ll discuss the available options and expected costs at your initial consultation. Following that we aim to provide you with a detailed quote as early in the planning process as possible.

How Long Do Dental Implants Last?

With regular dental check ups plus correct brushing, flossing and maintenance, dental implants are designed to last a lifetime. As long as the implant has been correctly planned and carefully placed, failures are unlikely. Problems with crowns, bridges or dentures that are attached to implants are also rare, but should they occur can usually be readily repaired or replaced.

Choosing a Qualified Implant Dentist

When selecting any health provider, you want to ensure they are caring, attentive & aligned with your goals. And when it comes to implant treatment, it’s extremely important to ensure your dentist has a high level of training and experience in this specific area of dentistry.
Dr Adrian Mazzaferro has completed extensive further education and training in the field of dental implant surgery at both the private and tertiary levels and are graduates of The University of Sydney's prestigious Graduate Diploma in Oral Implants of which Dr Mak now holds a position on it's planning committee.
